Hucknall Town 3 Pinxton 3
So another season draws to a close with the yellows winning the battle for third in an entertaining encounter which in one game summed up the entire season. First twenty minutes Hucknall were in command and were rewarded with a goal from Newton which the Pinxton goalkeeper would have been disappointed with despite it being from close range. Hucknall continued to apply pressure but lacked quality and it was Pinxton who equalised through Benger but again the defence will ask questions. Just as it seemed a draw would be the half time scored Adam Nelson struck from close rang with the last kick of the half to give Hucknall a deserved half time lead.
The second half was played in pretty much the same vein as Hucknall applied pressure but again lacked the quality to benefit. Pinxton then made a super sub change with Castledine being brought on and spotting Randall off his line lobbed the keeper with virtually his first touch. This shocked Hucknall and put a spring in the step of Pinxton. Benger scored Pinxtons 3rd just after the hour mark after another defensive lapse by the home side and it was Hucknalls turn to chase the game. Their cause was not helped by the referee missing a blatant handball outside of his area by the Pinxton keeper and a serious injury to captain Joe Atkinson who looks to have a broken shin bone and caused a lengthy stoppage. Perhaps it was fate that Hucknall equalised in the 7th minute of time mainly added on for the injury. David Leak heading home from close range to give the home side a share of the spoils and third place in the league.
As I said a game that summed up our season. Plenty of possession in and around the box but lack of quality to finish. Decisions not going for us in the vital games at vital times and another bad injury to boot. As in many games this season a game we should have won, could easily have lost so maybe a draw was a fair reflection.
Can't make the presentation night so have a good summer one and all and we come back to it all in July. Finally congratulations to Eastwood on winning the league and promotion and sincere commiserations to Sherwood whose unbeaten league record fell on the final day of the season.

we're still yellow and we're still alive......
