Hucknall Town 1 Sherwood Colliery 2
Another case of what might have been as Hucknall again failed against one of the top teams but they will feel they snatched defeat from the jaws of victory. Hucknall started very brightly and with a bit more luck might have had more than the one goal advantage at half time. Sherwood were guilty of giving the town to much time on the ball allowing the home team to produce several chances. Town had already hit the post which came back straight into the keepers arms before Joe Ashurst deservedly gave the hosts the lead with a fine header that looped over the keeper before going in off the crossbar. Sherwood should have done better with a free header which went over the bar.
Second half Sherwood closed down much better and town struggled to find the same space as the first half. A big turning point in the game was when Riettie latched on to a loose ball rounded the keeper and then shot from a tight angle. The ball agonisingly rolling across the goal and hitting the post. Had that gone in who knows. Sherwood began pushing forward and Randall produced a superb save to thwart the Sherwood player. Entering the last ten minutes Sherwood were on top and to be honest it was no surprise when they equalised sparking mass celebrations by the Sherwood bench most of it directed at the home bench. The goal stunned Hucknall and spurred Sherwood on and it was the visitors who found the killer goal with 4 minutes remaining. Disappointing for the Hucknall players who all ran their socks off but congratulations to Sherwood and good luck in the next round.

For the sake of it sounding like sour grapes I will refrain from commenting on the referee.

we're still yellow and we're still alive......
