I reckon Darlo should only be allowed entry to the Evo Stik if a place is available to them and as i see it there isn't one. Seems to me like they are looking at the Vics place in the Northern Premier and trying to gate crash it where as i think Frickley should be reprieved. also not sure on wether Shildon has the ground grading for the Evo-stik reading the comments.

Chief executive Liz Morley reported “an awful lot of interest” in the vacancy from the moment news of Lyttle’s resignation broke.

“The phone has hardly been on the hook,” said Morley. “We have had interest from all kinds of levels. It proves the club is still a draw for people.

“It will be a case of sitting down and drawing up a shortlist of candidates for interview. The most important attribute will be a good knowledge of the local game.”

Early front-runners for the post are veteran defender Chris Timons and former bosses Tommy Brookbanks and John Ramshaw. But it would be no surprise to see an appointment made from lower down the Nottinghamshire Non-League ladder, given the financial contraints that The Yellows face.

Morley said she was frustrated by Lyttle’s decision, having talked at length with him about next season. But she reasoned: “At least it’s better to have happened now, rather than in the middle of a season.”

Morley is one of three key Town officials tasked with hunting for a new boss. The others are vice-chairman Tony Knowles and former chairman John Coleman.

Before flying out for a two-week holiday in Tinidad, current chairman Brian Holmes joked that he expects to hear of their decision “while sitting on the beach”!

“We have discussed three or four people who might fit the bill,” said Holmes.

“But there will be a swathe of people coming forward to put their names in the frame.

“I was quite shocked to hear of Des’s decision. We had discussed the problems relating to travel and the need for knowledge of the local football scene, and he had assured us this was no problem.

“He now seems to have changed his mind but it is probably in the club’s best interests, given that he has to travel from Wolverhampton and we have a need to find more local players.

“It would be natural to ask Chris Timons if he would want to become player/manager. But logistically, that isn’t realistic because he has a good job with the fire service and wouldn’t be able to devote the time.”

I'd like to thank everyone for their support over the last two years and I'm very proud of the lads that have moved from AFC to make appearances in the first team.

Good luck to Andy and co next season in taking AFC forward and I will definitely be down at Watnall Road as soon as commitments allow.
